Eastern Cape police recovered four valuable hunting dogs worth R20000 and arrested a man following a tip-off.

Police spokesman Captain Mluleki Mbi said 16 blue tick hunting dogs had been taken from two Komgha farms outside East London between April and June.

According to Mbi‚ the dogs were stolen in batches and sold in different villages in the former Transkei.

Each dog is valued at R5000.

Mbi said the investigating officer had received a tip-off and one suspect was arrested‚ resulting in the recovery of four of the missing dogs.

Twelve have still not been accounted for.

“The suspect was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) and will appear in the Komgha Magistrate’s court on Thursday on a charge of theft‚” Mbi said.

“Police are still questioning him on the whereabouts of the remaining dogs. He is expected to point out the villages he sold them in.”
