Panayiotou denied bail

Port Elizabeth businessman Christopher  will stay in jail pending his trial for the alleged murder of his wife Jayde.

Grahamstown High Court Judge Glenn Goosen today upheld the Port Elizabeth Regional Court’s decision not to grant Panayiotou bail.

Panayiotou is facing charges that he masterminded his wife Jayde’s horror kidnapping and murder earlier this year. The state has alleged he could not afford to keep both his wife and his mistress, Chanelle Coutts.

Panayiotou’s counsel Terry Price, SC, indicated in his initial bail appeal that the court rolls were packed his client might well have to wait more than a year before his trial could proceed.

In his bail appeal, his other counsel, Mike Hellens, SC, indicated that Panayiotou would fork out up to R200 000 for bail and pay for a private security firm to monitor his every move pending his trial.
