Eskom on a good load shedding-free streak

The prognosis for load shedding on Monday is medium‚ and Eskom hoped to maintain its run of unbroken power supply.

A statement from the utility said that the “power system is currently stable‚ enabling Eskom to perform maintenance without load shedding”.

“Eskom has‚” the statement boasted‚ “been able to perform maintenance without load shedding for the past week.

“This is in line with the company’s position to only resort to rotational load shedding in order to protect the power system and also to create space for critical maintenance.”

As usual‚ the Eskom release stated that “in winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and evening as more electricity is used during these times”‚ but weather reports this week indicate warmer temperatures in most parts of the country.

“Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all the media platforms‚” the statement added.

Eskom’s Twitter account is often an outlet for frustration for those affected by power cuts‚ but a tweet on Monday saying the “probability of load shedding today is low for the morning and medium for the evening” drew at least one positive response.

?@cell–greg tweeted: “@Eskom–SA 8 consecutive days with no power cuts‚ and the outlook is the best so far this year.”

@Mickeybabe7‚ however‚ was slightly suspicious and asked: “@Eskom–SA Winter is over‚ so what must we save on now‚ hhmm ... would love to know what we must switch off to save.... less elec for summer”?
