Tutu on ‘new course of intensive antibiotic treatment’

He’s facing at least another fortnight in hospital‚ but Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is said to be “in good spirits and not in any pain”.

A statement from the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation on Thursday morning said that the 83-year-old Nobel peace laureate “is on a new course of intensive antibiotic treatment that will continue for two weeks”.

His daughter‚ the Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu‚ said: “The archbishop and his family were deeply appreciative of the prayers and good wishes of so many”.

She added that her father “had humbly requested journalists not to anticipate daily updates…so that he could rest peacefully while receiving treatment”‚ and ended by saying “any change in his condition” would be communicated by the foundation.

It is the third time in as many months that he has been admitted to hospital‚ and AFP reported on Tuesday that his daughter had said: “The nurses all say he’s just back to see them again and he’s willing to concur ... it’s the right place for him to be right now.”
