The Democratic Alliance Students Organisation (Daso) has again won and gained control of the Nelson Mandela Metro University (NMMU) in a landslide victory.

Daso was up against the South African Students Congress (Sasco) and the Economical Freedom Fighters Students Command (EFFSC), in what was dubbed the toughest NMMU SRC elections to-date.

The EFFSC were contesting elections at NMMU for the first time, while rivalry between Sasco and Daso has been going on for a couple of years.

Daso scooped seven seats, Sasco took five while the EFFSC could only manage one for the overall central results.

Daso won the representative seats at the main North and South campuses while Sasco won the seat for the Missionvale & 2nd Avenue campuses.  Oppidani, non-residential NMMU students, Daso won all 8 seats including the seat for international students.

Congratulating Daso on their twitter account DA Eastern Cape tweeted "This victory is a sign that change is coming to Nelson Mandela Bay, where DA is set on winning, come 2016."

Daso won last year’s SRC elections by a three-seat victory of 12-9 over Sasco.  The new Daso presidential candidate Xabiso Nyati will now take over from his counterpart Hlomela Bucwa.
