The DA on Wednesday said the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) has “for too long and without consequence … had a stranglehold on our education system and has held the futures of young South Africans to ransom”.
A party statement on Wedneday said it will announce it plans on it “aims to hold the Sadtu responsible for its undemocratic and unconstitutional practice of denying learners their right to education”.
“In many instances‚ Sadtu has actively denied our children this right‚” the statement said‚ which “is entrenched in the Constitution…(which) states that “everyone has the right to basic education‚ including adult basic education”.
Sadtu‚ along with other teaching unions‚ this week refused to administer the Annual National Assessments‚ which Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said would be held on December 1-4.
