More details are emerging around the arrest of a 29-year-old actress arrested at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport for alleged possession of drugs worth millions of rands.
The woman’s arrest made headlines this morning‚ followed by avid speculation on social media about who the actress might be.
Luther Lebelo from the South African Revenue Service has revealed that the woman held supporting roles in soapies such as etv’s Scandal‚ Isidingo on SABC 3 and SABC 1’s Skeem Saam.
The woman was caught allegedly trying to smuggle 15.45kg of Ephedrine worth R4.6 million shortly after landing on a flight from Abu Dhabi on Sunday afternoon. SARS said the drugs were discovered when her luggage was searched‚ as she went through customs after alleging she had nothing to declare.
Police spokesman Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo however refuted the claims of the woman’s profession in a statement‚ saying the arrested woman was “not a South African celebrity“.
Naidoo told The Times that the woman had “only been used once as an extra in a soapie“.
But Lebelo stood by his statement.
The woman’s identity will only be released once she appears at the Kempton Park Magistrate Court tomorrow.
