Guilty of dealing in steroids

A Vincent man has been convicted of selling animal steroids to humans and fined R10000.

Bruce Clark pleaded guilty before magistrate Twanet Olivier to the unlicensed possession of substances.

Police raided Clark’s suburban home more than a year ago after a tip-off and found hundreds of tablets and capsules, including testosterone, which were confiscated and sent to Cape Town for testing.

A year later, the lab results came back and a report was compiled in which found Clark was selling steroids designed for use on animals.

Prosecuting advocate Hanke Ackermann said Clark “unlawfully and intentionally” sold and was in possession of substances that could be addictive.

Clark told the court: “The products were found in my possession and I sold them. I also sell supplements. I do not have a permit and I can confirm that I was aware that it was illegal.”

He was sentenced to a R10000 fine or two years’ imprisonment plus five years suspended for five years. — siyab@dispatch.co.za
