Umhlobo Wenene FM has announced a major staff reshuffle.Station manager Phumzile Mnci said popular show host and presenter Luyanda “Luks” Gidane had been moved to the midday show as a producer.
Gidane previously co-hosted the afternoon drive show, Masigoduke, alongside Mthobeli August, known as “KCI”, and Zizo Beda.
The midday show, Sijikilanga, is currently being hosted by Amaza Ntshanga and Nonala Tose, who was the show’s producer.
Mnci said the changes were part of the “upskilling” of personnel to ensure growth for the station.
“The station has identified a massive skill and strength with regards to production work from Luks, and we took a decision to tap into the identified skill and strength and place him where the station believes he is stronger and will be more effective,” said Mnci.
He said Gidane had been with the station for 12 years, hosting some of the station’s popular shows and working as a a music compiler.
Some of the shows he hosted were Morning Glory, Party Time, Quiet Storm and Eziyolisayo.
“Luks has vast experience in the broadcast field as an on-air personality, also has a flair for producing and will fit hand-in-glove into the midday show,” he said.
Mnci said the reshuffle was necessary for the station to increase its listenership from 4.6 million to five million.
He urged listeners to continue to support the station, as had been done for 55 years, and said the station was “committed to its mandate to educate, inform and entertain”.
