Cosmetics store’s assets up for auction

Thousands of rands worth of stock, furniture and fittings from the liquidated Just On Cosmetics store in Grahamstown go under the hammer tomorrow.

The auction of goods worth more than R350000 by O’Connor Auctioneers and Appraisers comes after 43 Just On Cosmetics stores were shut last month leaving 500 staff in the province unemployed.

East London’s oldest running auction house advertised the sale yesterday to take place at Market Square Mall in shop 5A.

The auction will start at 11am and is expected to finish by 4pm.

Stock on auction range from baby food, nappies, hair products, cosmetics to household cleaning products, fans, Tupperware and many other kitchen appliances.

Auctioneer Kenneth O’Connor said it was the first auction. “Last Friday we were informed to close this shop,” O’Connor said.

He said potential buyers could look forward to buying vinyl flooring, crockery and glassware.

“Going forward and as soon as we have instruction, we will inform everybody about the next auction.”

Although hundreds of workers were concerned about being unemployed, South African Chemical Workers’ Union provincial organiser Mzwakhe Ntoyakhe, said they were consoled by the fact that one of the liquidators was doing a “very good job” in looking for potential buyers of the stores and also preparing the packages of former employees.

“We learnt that the company was under liquidation and we did not even march as we had planned.

“We just wanted them to not ignore us as creditors and now workers will get all the monies owed to them,” Ntoyakhe said. — mamelag@dispatch.co.za
