Phiyega can say what she wants - Nhleko

Addressing the press on Phiyega's suspension, Nhleko said, "There is a process that is underway. There is not much else I can say about that. She is free to comment on the matter but internal processes will determine the outcome."

Nhleko was speaking at a roadshow in Groutville, north of Durban on Friday.

Phiyega said in a television interview on Friday morning that she had no regrets. "I understood precisely the requirements... in terms of doing the work," she told eNCA. "I regret no inch."

Phiyega, who in a statement on Thursday evening rejected the findings of two damning reports against her, said she believed she had done good work at the SA Police Service.

On Wednesday, a ministerial reference group dealing with a host of concerns facing the police service laid the blame for most of the challenges solely at Phiyega's door.

Phiyega has been accused of perjury, fraud, misconduct and wasteful expenditure by the reference group, which was formed in September last year to look at some of the issues confronting the police service.

From demotions and wasteful expenditure to individual grievances, Nhleko on Wednesday told Parliament the reference group found Phiyega had committed criminal and procedural offences in her role as national commissioner.
