Time to pick your favourite arts practitioners

Its time to nominate the province’s standout arts and culture practitioners.

If you know of anyone who is worthy of being acknowledged for excellence in a wide range of arts, please nominate them for the second provincial arts and culture awards, said Eastern Cape department of sport, recreation, arts and culture (DSRAC) spokesman, Andile Nduna.

This includes excellence in music, drama, dance, visual arts, crafts, literature, sign language development and promotion, arts management, arts and culture journalism and film,

“These awards are open to anyone who has achieved provincially, nationally or internationally in any of the categories mentioned above,” said Nduna.

The awards will be held on December 19 at the Guild Theatre. The closing date for nominations is November 18.

“Nominations must be made through a signed letter with the details of both the nominator and nominee. The letter must clearly state the category and must be accompanied by a signed letter of acceptance by the nominee, as well as references to verify information,” he said.

He said there was no cash incentive for winners, only trophies and certificates.

Previous winners include popular gospel star Bethusile Mcinga.

Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre director Sy Ntuli said that they were fully behind the initiative.

“These awards are not just about government recognition, but more about the province celebrating their own. No one knows who is doing well and who deserves these accolades better than the public. We see these awards growing into something all our artists will work towards,” said Ntuli.
