Teen hurt as boys from rival villages clash

A war between two King William’s Town villages has left a teen from Bulembu Location fighting for his life after he was attacked by a group from a rival village.

Many others were injured.

“I was at home when I saw a group of boys trying to damage the gate. Stones were thrown my direction and a big rock hit my face. I didn’t even know what was happening. I’m still in pain,” said Anelisa, a Grade 11 pupil.

Another concerned parent Thandiswa Dyantyi said her son, 17, had an injured arm from an attack last Monday as he was coming home from school.

However, headman Liza Toyise, who is a traditional leader in Mzantsi village, said elders from the village did not know the reasons behind the attacks.

Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa said in connection to Xolisa’s case, a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) was under investigation.

She said: “Four males aged between 17 and 18 were arrested while police were busy doing stop and search in the area. One of them, aged 17, handed himself to the police.

“They were charged with possession of dangerous weapons and through investigation, two suspects who are both 18 years old were also charged with assault GBH.”

They were out on warning and would appear in the Dimbaza Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
