DA: Motshekga must release ‘jobs-for-cash’ once she receives it

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is set to take receipt of the “long-awaited ‘jobs-for-cash’ forensic investigation” in volving the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) on Monday.

That’s according to a letter which the Democratic Alliance (DA) said it had received from her saying the “task Team will be ready to hand its report to me by no later than December 7”.

“It is about time‚” the DA’s Gavin Davis said. “The investigation into allegations that Sadtu-aligned officials solicited bribes in return for teaching posts was supposed to have been completed six months ago.

“In the meantime‚ the practice of selling teaching posts has continued unabated. The scandal took a more sinister turn over the weekend with the report that two teachers had been gunned down to take them out of the running for vacant principal posts.”

Davis said he hopes that Motshekga will not delay the report’s release once she receives it.

“Many schools are currently recruiting teachers for the new school year and competition over posts is fierce. It is vital that the forensic report is published immediately to deter corrupt Sadtu-aligned officials from soliciting bribes in return for these posts.”
