Two people died and 15 people were injured when a police van and bakkie collided head-on this afternoon.
The accident took place on the R61 near the Mthatha Airport shortly after 2pm. The deceased were all travelling in the bakkie.
When the Daily Dispatch arrived at the scene, the two bodies had not yet been removed. One of the injured had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
According to officials at the scene, the police van was travelling towards Mthatha and the bakkie in the opposite direction.
