Jozi's razzmatazz, glitz and glamorous lifestyle is coming to East London this festive season.

This was the promise from events organisers Thulas Mbuyazwe and Litha Yaya.

The two manage and run Johannesburg entertainment and lifestyle club The Sands.

They yesterday officially launched a pop-up branch of the club at Latimer’s Landing that will run until January 2.

Just last month, local businessman Olwethu Hoyana opened his upmarket Oh! Brigado club at Beacon Bay Crossing.

This is the second year The Sands will open in East London for the festive season, after its successful run last year in Vincent at the former 9Miles Lounge.

“We run The Sands club in Jozi and 60% of our clientele there are from the Eastern Cape, so we see it fitting that we bring the same party they are used to, to East London’s shores,” Yaya said.

The new venue boasts one of the best views in the city, overlooking the harbour, and revellers will have the opportunity to book a boat cruise every day from 6pm to 7pm.

“A group of 20 people can book the boat for a sunset cruise. They can have boat parties, then come back to the club to party all night long,” Mbuyazwe said.

The two promised that the club would this year be “bigger and better”, hosting parties with nationally recognised DJs and artists.

Asked about competition from clubs such as the trendy Oh! Brigado, Mbuyazwe said: “We are glad that we ignited a spark in the entertainment industry in East London.

“When we brought The Sands, people decided that they must step up their game.”

They also urged East Londoners to use the twitter hashtag #SummerIsOurs.

Oh! Brigado, which is situated at the fast-growing entertainment and lifestyle hub, Beacon Bay Crossing, officially opened on November 13.

The champagne bar has since become the place to go.

Hoyana said: “Oh! Brigado is bigger, we have a stage, we will have live performances.

“East London people are everywhere in the country, in December they come back and expect the kind of entertainment and services they are used to.

“We have a beautiful heritage in East London, so let’s sell it to the world.”

Hoyana is also the owner of restaurant Oh! Yum and Berea entertainment lounge Oh! Mi.

Asked about the competitive edge of the city’s entertainment industry he said: “I do not base my offers on what the competition is doing.

“I have a market that is interested in what we offer. In December, there are so many people for all the options.” — siphem@dispatch.co.za
