The arrests were made at Mcubukazi and Msobomvu Townships respectively near Butterworth.

A 35-year-old man from Mcubukazi was found with a Z88 pistol which had 16 rounds of ammunition, while a 28-year-old from Msobomvu was arrested after he was caught with an unlicensed pistol.

Police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said one of the weapons was traceable because the serial number had not been filed off.

“Police will circulate the firearm to establish its lawful owner. The firearm will also be sent for ballistic testing to verify if it was used in the commission of any crime around the area.”

Manatha said both men had been arrested by Butterworth police on Saturday and were due to appear before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court today.

Willowvale police arrested a 55-year-old man for dealing in dagga after the suspect was found to have planted dagga plants in his home garden at Ntsimbini location in Nxanxashe Village near Willowvale.

Manatha said the suspect had been arrested early Friday.

The suspect will appear before the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court today on charges of dealing in dagga.

A man was stabbed to death at a tavern in Nobanda Village near Ngqamakwe.

Siphuxolo Vena, 23, sustained severe stab wounds to his upper body and died instantly.

Ngqamakhwe police arrested a 25-year-old man for the alleged murder of a 23-year-old man. The deceased and the suspect were in a tavern on Friday at about 5.30pm at Gquma location.
