WSU appoints new campus rector, marketing head

Two senior posts have been filled at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) amid a number of top management vacancies at the institution.

The unfilled posts include that of vice-chancellor; deputy-vice chancellor for academic affairs and research; registrar; executive director for student affairs; and executive director for operations and information, communications and technology.

A memo sent to the university’s community by interim vice-chancellor Prof Khaya Mfenyana, and seen by the Daily Dispatch announced the appointment of Dr Prince Jaca as Buffalo City campus rector.

Jaca was previously WSU’s dean of engineering and technology and former director of the university’s school of mathematics, science and technology.

Yonela Tukwayo has replaced Angela Church as senior director of marketing, communications and advancement.

Church has been hired as a communications consultant by the Department of Higher Education and Training.

The role of Thando Cezula, who had been acting as a spokesman following the departure of Church, will stop at the end of this month.

Both appointments are five-year contracts starting from January.

Mfenyana said the appointments were finalised by the university council and wished Tukwayo a successful tenure.

An online search revealed that Tukwayo was the marketing and communications manager at the Industrial Development Corporation before joining WSU and previously worked for Vodacom, Absa and Standard Bank.

In an online profile, Tukwayo claims to be a seasoned marketer with 15 years of experience with a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours and a Bachelor of Technology in Marketing from the University of South Africa (Unisa).

She also has a higher diploma in integrated marketing communication from the AAA School

of Advertising and a national diploma in marketing from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
