Cops to probe deeper into killing of EL man

East London police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of East London resident Steve Audie at his upmarket Riverside Lifestyle Estate in Abbotsford.

Spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mtati Tana confirmed that police were investigating a case of murder after the matter was reported to them on Saturday.

“Police were called at 1.42pm after a man aged 60 was found dead at his home,” said Tana.

“Security staff at the scene showed police the body and a murder case was opened.”

Tana said it is believed valuable items were stolen from the house, including an Audi A6 motor vehicle, cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money.

Audie was found by close friends Shiree Evans and her husband Phillip. Speaking to the Dispatch this week, Evans said they stumbled on the body on the bathroom floor.

They had gone to check on Audie after a friend had said she had been unable to get hold of him.

Riverside Lifestyle Estate property consultant Liam Victor said it was a secure facility but a visit yesterday by a Daily Dispatch team revealed that anyone could go in or out via an old quarry at the back without being detected by security.

Tana appealed to anyone with information on the murder to contact police.

“Police urge anyone with information to come forward and contact Beacon Bay police on 043-701-9017 or 071-897-5108.”
