Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo will spend his first night in jail on Wednesday. Police have a warrant for his arrest.
This comes after Mthatha High Court Judge Nozuko Mjali dismissed the abaThembu king’s bid to extend his bail — and after he failed to report to Correctional Services by 6pm on Wednesday.
Dalindyebo has tried many avenues to avoid his 12-year sentence for culpable homicide‚ kidnapping and arson‚ including approaching the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal. He also petitioned the justice minister to have his conviction overturned.
It is expected that police will take him to Wellington Prison near Mthatha.
