Winning back a former lover has been made a little easier thanks to Mzansi Magic’s newest offering Love Back.

The show is the latest addition to the channel’s growing slate of local reality shows. It gives people who have lost the love of their life a shot at winning back their hearts.

Other popular Mzansi Magic television programmes include Our Perfect Wedding, Rockville and Isibaya and Zabalaza.

Love Back proved a hit following its first airing and saw many viewers take to social media and commend the participants for their bravery.

Host Thomas Gumede said they had received a ‘favourable’ response from the public when a request was made last year asking for participants.

“We received such favourable results even before people even knew when the show would be aired.”

The multi-talented comedian, actor and presenter said it wasn’t all plain sailing hosting the show as it came with its own challenges.

“These are real life stories and real people. You can’t help but find yourself carrying their issues with you.”

The shows sees Gumede respond to the requests made by participants by setting up a meeting between them and their former partner.

He acts as a mediator during the meeting and the one being pursued can then accept or reject the advances.

Gumede said the show had been an eye-opener for him.

“Hearing other peoples’ stories made me realise that everybody goes through the same thing; it doesn’t matter where you are from,” he said.

Gumede said every story he had responded to had changed him.

“Every story is different and you can see how much these people want to get back with their exes.”

He admired the courage shown by people who came on the show. “Personally, I would rather talk to someone myself privately but I admire the bravery from the people who write to us,” he said.

M-Net director of local interest channels, Nkatejo Mabaso, said Love Back aimed to create an opportunity for reconciliation and romance.

“We hope that the show will give the broken-hearted a chance to rekindle the flame that they had with the person who they believe is the love of their life,” said Mabaso.

Mabaso said the show would be filmed around the county with the aim of showing people how to overcome obstacles that might hold back “a perfect couple from getting together again”.

Gumede said viewers could expect a range of stories that would pull at their heartstrings. Catch Love Back on Mzansi Magic every Sunday at 5:30pm. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
