The Bala Brothers live concert made its American television debut this week. Two of the multitalented sibling trio were in the US for their promotional tour.

Zwai and Loyiso arrived in New York last week to promote their upcoming international tour.

The brothers last year signed a deal with the Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) to air a live recording of their show. PBS is an American broadcasting television network.

Their concert, which premiered on Tuesday night, was recorded last year at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City, Johannesburg.

The recording of the show was played on Connecticut Public Television – a PBS member network.

“The response we received has convinced us that we’re in for something special as the Bala Brothers,” Loyiso said.

The two brothers also made an appearance on Connecticut Public Television.

Loyiso said during their promotional tour, they visited places like Atlanta, Phoenix and New York.

To make their upcoming tour possible, the brothers have signed up with one of the top agencies in the world, The Agency Group.

Along with the PBS premiere, the talented Uitenhage-born siblings have also signed an international deal with Warner Brothers Records to have their album released worldwide.

They also made a brief visit to the Warner Brothers offices in New York this week.

The partnership between PBS and the Bala Brothers was finalised last year.

Loyiso said this was something that they have always dreamed of and were honoured to be among the few South Africans to have a live recording broadcast on PBS and make a name for themselves in the US.

During their live concert recording last year, the brothers were joined by the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir and were also accompanied by a 24-piece orchestra.

All three brothers were part of the Drakensberg Boy’s Choir and have since made names for themselves as solo artists.

Older brother Zwai is a musical director, composer, musician and producer. He is one of the founding members of popular 1990s group, TKZee.

Loyiso started off with TKZee but went on to conquer R&B circles.

Younger brother Phelo is also making a name for himself as a solo artist. The brothers are expected to be back in the country tomorrow. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
