Award winning guitarist Guy Buttery will bring his national tour The Gathering Fiction to East London’s Arts Theatre on Saturday.

The renowned artist started his tour in KwaZulu-Natal last month and has visited Gauteng, Western Cape and some parts of the Eastern Cape.

He said East London would be the final stop of the tour.

Arts Theatre’s Amanda Bothma said it was the first time the venue was hosting an award-winning musician.

“We are so honoured to have him perform. We are so excited for this show,” she said.

Prior to his national tour, Buttery performed in more than 12 countries around the world last year.

The talented musician won a South African Music Award for the best classical/ instrument album for Live in KwaZulu.

Since releasing his debut album, Buttery has worked with world-renowned guitar legends Preston Reed and Jon Gomm on a series of concerts titled International Guitar Night.

Buttery said each tour he went on was defined by the stories from the road.

The Gathering Fiction tour was inspired by those experiences.

“These pieces of raw material are spontaneously collected and somehow find their way into songs, on-stage anecdotes and most importantly into my everyday thought patterns. You always carry them with you,” he said.

Buttery said the East London show was one of 20 he had hosted this year already.

“The tour has been fantastic and I’ve had a great time so far. I hope East London will be amazing too,” he said.

Buttery’s last visit to East London was in August 2013.

“I am happy to be coming to the city again after almost a year and a half,” he said, adding fans could expect to hear music from all his previous albums.

Buttery said he was working on his sixth album, which would be released later this year.

“We do not have a date yet but I hope I will be able to launch it around August and come back to East London again,” he said.
