Easter show artists named

With less than two weeks left before voting lines close for the Easter Gospel Feast, today we reveal the first five artists who will be sharing the stage with international gospel sensation Bebe Winans.

Xolani Mdlalose, Butho Vuthela, Ntokozo Gospel Group, Unathi Ndzube and Nozipho Zubane have cracked the nod.

Winans will be performing at the Buffalo City Stadium on April 6 and organisers have given the public the chance to choose who they would like to see on stage.

Event organiser Vovee Batala said the first five were selected based on votes received. “This is strictly for the public. They decide who they want to see on that stage,” Batala said. “These artists received between 100 and 200 votes. We are hoping the numbers will go up for other artists as well.”

Mdlalose is a member of award-winning gospel group, Joyous Celebration. In 2013, he released his debut album My Worship. The Durban singer still performs with the band and also does solo gigs.

The Ntokozo Gospel Group are from Butterworth and have made a name for themselves around the province.

Since releasing their first album, Praise and Worship Chapter 1, Ndzube has featured in numerous events.

Batala said so far they have received more than 5000 votes for the artists and co-host categories.

“We are very happy with the SMS line results, especially the numbers coming through for the co-host category. With artists it’s going well but not as well as we thought,” he said.

Batala said they were also looking for three co-hosts to join Umhlobo Wenene FM’s Putco Mafani on the day.

“So far we have about eight people who are running for those spots. It is mainly radio DJs and well-known MCs. Their category has received the most votes so far.”

They will be campaigning in churches this weekend for ushers, Batala said.

“We need 200 ushers for the day. Each church can give us 20 people for the day. People need to vote for their churches to be included.”

Batala added that they would be going to hospitality service providers to encourage them to take part.

They will be revealing another five artists next week Wednesday and Saturday, he said. “Voting lines close on March 24 and upcoming artists have one more week to campaign and get their supporters to vote for them.”
