Zuma can't open Mvezo school to honour Mandela

The opening of the Makgatho Lewanika Primary School in Mvezo in the Eastern Cape‚ which was scheduled to take place on July 18 to honour the Nelson Mandela International Day has been postponed to August 25.

No reason was provided by the office of the president.

President Jacob Zuma had been scheduled to officially open the school — a merger between Nkwenkwezi Primary School and Mvezo Primary School with an enrolment of 600 learners.

"The plans for Mandela Day activities which include reinforcing the existing parameter fence‚ cleaning campaign and planting of 67 Umkhanyakude trees at the school will proceed as planned‚" Zuma’s office said in a brief statement.

"President Jacob Zuma will be represented by the Minister of Basic Education‚ Ms Angie Motshekga‚ at the Mandela Day celebrations."
