The pitbull that tore through Baysville last Wednesday attacking four men and landing two in hospital has been put down.

This is according to Geoffrey Wade, who told the Daily Dispatch yesterday that the dog, called Kronos, belonged to him.

Wade is the father of Travis, whose pitbulls, Tyson and Hera, were involved in the death of Haidee Pook on July 17 last year.

Berea Veterinary Clinic vet Dr Coen de Bruin confirmed that Travis and Geoffrey Wade brought Kronos into his surgery to have him put to sleep last Thursday afternoon and that he had been put down.

Geoffrey asked the Daily Dispatch for the contact details of last week’s attack victims, saying he was willing to pay for their medical expenses.

He said Kronos had had “nothing to do” with Pook’s death. “He was our little puppy”.

Asked if the pitbull was trained to be aggressive he said: “No-one trained him. It was just how he was.”

Geoffrey said only his son and domestic worker were at home when Kronos sped out of the front gate last week.

“I would love to know who opened that front gate,” he said.

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said he witnessed Travis Wade arriving home and leaving the gate open at about 2pm last Wednesday.

“You have no idea what it’s like to live in a road with a dog like this.

“Some people cross the road rather than walk past that house. — barbarah@dispatch.co.za
