Mike Stofile, the younger brother of South Africa’s ambassador to Germany Makhenkesi Stofile died today at Port Elizabeth’s Greenacres Hospital.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the youngest of the seven brothers, Nceba Stofile said his brother Mike, a well known Eastern Cape businessman, had been suffering from diabetes for quite some time but had never been admitted to hospital for any complications. But last week he got very sickly and had to be rushed to Port Alfred’s Netcare Hospital.

“When his condition deteriorated, the family decided to transfer him to what we regarded as a better equipped hospital, Greenacres in Port Elizabeth, for him to receive the best medical care.

“For some time he appeared to be getting a lot better, but to our shock we were informed that indeed he passed on this (Sunday) morning,” Nceba said.

He said they have been in touch already with the former Eastern Cape premier and Sports Minister, Makhenkesi Stofile, to inform him about the news of Mike’s death.

“We have been in touch already. Those family members who are nearer home will be meeting tonight  already to brain storm on the possible date for the funeral.

“We are still in shock,” said Nceba.
