Global date for EC's Bunu

After being the first woman to win an audience choice award at the Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards this year, Khanyisa Bunu is to share the stage with comedy giants such as Trevor Noah and Jeff Ross at Comedy Central International’s first South African Comedy Festival.

Comedy Central and a cider company have joined forces to present the ground-breaking festival, which will see African and international comics together under one roof.

The 11-day festival, which begins on Wednesday and runs to December 5, also showcases African stars like David Kau and Marc Lottering in various events.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch, Bunu, who is from Whittlesea, said she was in the festival’s segment for up-and-coming stars, called The Future, and was scheduled to perform on the last day of the festival alongside Mojak Lehoko, Snooze, Prins and Gavin Kelly. “I am really excited about this opportunity.

“Can you imagine how many people this show is going to reach? Millions, all around the world – and I will be there. I may only get 20 minutes but that means I have to own those 20 minutes and kill it.”

This year Bunu put on a one-woman show in Pretoria, where she shot her first live DVD, called Gratitude. She is to launch it at Queen’s Casino in Queenstown on December 11, and at the First City Baptist Church in East London the next day. Tickets are R100. Both shows start at 7:30pm.
