Officer arrests man with huge dagga haul

Eastern Cape traffic officer Vuyani Khetsi arrested a man after a dagga stash worth R22000 was allegedly found in his vehicle.

Provincial transport spokesman Ncedo Kumbaca said Khetsi, who is stationed at Wilsonia provincial traffic department, was busy patrolling when he pulled over a red Opel Astra to conduct a routine roadworthiness inspection.

“He noticed two black plastic bags that were hidden in the passenger seat. He enquired from the driver about the contents and he told him that they were dagga parcels,” said Kumbaca.

The driver allegedly offered to give Khetsi money, but he refused to take it. “He proceeded to effect an arrest,” said Kumbaca.

The suspect was detained at a local police station and is expected to appear in court soon.

In December last year, Khetsi arrested three suspects driving a stolen vehicle while patrolling on the N6 near Macleantown.

He became suspicious when he noticed the vehicle had no registration plates, despite being a “fairly old car”.
