BMF says it expects Standard Bank to fire suspended economist Chris Hart
The Black Management Forum (BMF) on Wednesday said it expects Standard Bank to fire suspended economist Chris Hart.

The “non-racial” organisation said “welcomes the decision that Standard Bank has taken against…Hart for his racist and derogatory tweet: ‘More than 25 years after Apartheid ended‚ the victims are increasing along with a sense of entitlement and hatred towards minorities…’ ”

The BMF said the “brazen comment serves to further perpetuate the narrative that black professionals are ‘unwelcomed guests’‚ thus ensuring that they do not take part meaningfully in the workplace and this consequently stalls their career progress”.

The statement went on to say describe Hart as a “corporate gatekeeper” who has delayed the “progress of black professionals”‚ and claimed his “views and behaviour is unfortunately shared by most white managers and executives”.

The BMF said it respected the internal disciplinary processes‚ “however‚ we expect nothing less than his dismissal”.

The BMF has always been vocal on the institutionalised racism that black professionals and general workers have been subjected to in most companies today. We will continue in our endeavour of ensuring that the many competent black men and women in South Africa are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve in the workplace.

We will be following these developments with keen interest.
