The East London, Mthatha and Elliot search and rescue units continued the hunt for a missing Centane man yesterday.

Sibusiso Cengimbo, 30, was last seen leaving his home on December 30 to go to a spaza shop in Komkhulu location in Mnyameni village, 15km outside Centane.

Police from the East London search and rescue unit, led by Warrant Officer Fred Dicks, began searching on Friday, and yesterday police from Mthatha and Elliot joined them.

“He was in the company of his young sister when he left home for the spaza shop but his sister later returned home alone,” Butterworth police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said. “His family tried to locate him via his cellphone. He answered their first call, claiming to be in Njingini village where another member of the family lives. During another call he claimed to be in a certain forest. Police and community members looked for him but in vain.”

He said Cengimbo’s phone was now switched off and calls went to voicemail. Cengimbo was last seen wearing a navy jersey, brown trousers and a grey hat. Anyone knowing of his whereabouts should contact Centane police on 04749810661054. — zwangam@dispatch.co.za
