DA to launch plans for PE metro police force

The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday said it has “a viable solution to start saving lives and finally win the fight againts drug lords and gangsters” in Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB).

This‚ the party said‚ will be revealed along with the presentation of its “tangible‚ comprehensive plan to launch a metro police force”.

“The delay by the African National Congress (ANC) government in NMB to launch and operate a Metro Police service is keeping our people unsafe‚ and subjected communities to gangsterism and crime‚” DA mayoral candidate Athol Trollip said.

“Delay after delay‚ the ANC government in NMB seems unable to launch a Metro Police service.”

In November‚ Trollip — who “will also visit the family of 2-year-old Caydene Ruiters‚ who was shot and killed in gang crossfire late last year – criticised the local authority for paying a “metro police chief…an unjustified R1-million per year‚ with not a single officer on the beat or in training”.
