Five arrested after taxi owner slain in drive-by attack

Lusikisiki police arrested five men in connection with the murder of a taxi owner in Mthontsasa administrative area yesterday.

The men were allegedly involved in a drive-by shooting near a local police station where a group of taxi owners were sitting.

Police spokesman Captain Mduduzi Godlwana said the incident took place around midday yesterday while the taxi owners were attending a periodic court case at the police station.

The court case to be heard involved taxi violence. One of the taxi owners was fatally wounded during the shooting.

“The police chased after the vehicle. They (the attackers) abandoned the sedan they were in and took another car which was travelling towards Mthontsasa.

“Police found them in the second vehicle.

“They arrested five suspects and confiscated two firearms,” said Godlwana.
