BCM’s high fliers crash

Fourteen Buffalo City Metro (BCM) employees who received lucrative promotions even though they did not possess the necessary qualifications have been demoted.

Other senior officials affected are the metro’s legal advisors Mxolisi Mlotana and Zolile Vumazonke.

Ncunyana said Mlotana was promoted to being a special advisor to Fani, despite the post not existing in the metro’s organogram.

Vumazonke, also a legal advisor, was promoted to Mlotana’s old post, and therefore Ncunyana said even though he met the requirements, he had to be demoted as Mlotana would be returning to his original post.

Contacted yesterday, Ncunyana declined to comment and referred queries to metro spokesman Keith Ngesi. Ngesi said the matter was still confidential and he could not comment on it.

Ndlela also refused to comment, saying he was “directly affected by this”. He them referred queries to Samwu provincial secretary Milton Myolwa, who could not be reached at the time of writing.

Attempts to get contact details for Fatuse, Sincayi, Mbiko, Mlotana and Vumazonke were unsuccessful at the time of writing.

Last June a Saturday Dispatch exposé revealed that several BCM workers, including Samwu shop stewards, received huge salary increases of up to 400% after being seconded to senior positions. — asandan@dispatch.co.za
