Man shot in head in robbery

A man was shot in his head by two suspects before they robbed him of cash estimated at R30000 inside an East London business yesterday. He survived.

The incident occurred shortly before 4pm inside the premises of SA Home Loans in Princes Road, Vincent.

Shortly after the incident, police spokesman Captain Mluleki Mbi told the Daily Dispatch that the two suspects fled the scene in a white VW Polo.

He said the victim, in his late 50s, was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

“It appears that the victim withdrew money from a bank in Vincent and was targeted by the two suspects who followed him.

“They accosted him inside the business premises where a shot was fired in the process. The suspects got away with the victim’s monies, laptop and cellphone,” Mbi said.

He said the men remained at large.

Mbi said it was still unclear whether the victim had visited the business to pay off a loan. Police had not taken a statement from him due to his hospitalisation.

A case of attempted murder and armed robbery was being investigated.

Mbi said anyone with information on the crime should contact detectives at the Cambridge police station on (043) 726-8585 and any information would be treated as confidential. — zwangam@dispatch.co.za
