Repeat rapist sentenced to life in jail

A repeat rapist has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a child in 2014.

The man cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the child because he was in a relationship with her mother.

He raped the girl while her mother was at work. The man managed to get her to undress by telling her he wanted to take measurements because he wanted to buy her clothes.

He pleaded not guilty, saying the case was a result of a conspiracy.

The man was found guilty and yesterday acting Judge Richard Brooks sentenced him to life.

In a separate case, convicted rapist boxer Thabo Sonjica appeared briefly in the East London Regional Court where he was to be sentenced but the case was postponed to April 18 because he wanted new legal representation.

Sonjica was found guilty of rape after he violated a teenager with his finger in Duncan Village.

A West Bank man arrested for sexually assaulting five children at a safe house will be reporting to Fort England Hospital in Grahamstown on September 19.

He cannot be named because he has not yet been asked to plead.

This week his attorney said consulting was difficult because his client suffered from memory loss. As a result, the accused will undergo 30 days’ psychiatric observation.
