ANC hearing for disgruntled group

Twenty disgruntled ANC members of the Buffalo City Metro (BCM) region, who were suspended in December after hosting a parallel regional conference, appeared before a disciplinary hearing yesterday.

The case was postponed again until March 2.

The Daily Dispatch understands that scores of their supporters braved yesterday’s wet weather and protested at the party’s headquarters, Calata House, in King William’s Town.

ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane confirmed that the disciplinary hearing had been held yesterday.

“This is an organisational internal process which I cannot speak on details thus far to respect the process,” he said.

He said the hearing would allow suspended members to answer all charges of “bringing the organisation into disrepute by undermining ANC constitution”.

The newspaper has learnt that the charges they face include that they:

Were part of a parallel non-ANC process that appointed a disputed BCM regional task team (RTT);

Conducted themselves in a manner that violated the ANC constitutional process in that they participated in a process that sought to undermine the ANC constitutional process; and

Accepted an appointment to serve in the disputed BCMRTT.

The group’s spokesman, Xolani Somaca, said their members were present at the hearings.

Among those suspended is party veteran and former MPL Joe Jordaan, who was elected convener, his deputy Mike Mnikina, Mahlubi Dywili who was elected coordinator and Nomathamsanqa Calata, his deputy, Patrick Daniso who was elected treasurer and Somaca.
