“While electricity shortages have not been discussed recently given the absence of load shedding‚ we are growing increasingly concerned that winter will see a marked return to scheduled outages‚ particularly if the mining and manufacturing sectors begin taking advantage of the weaker rand and patches of better demand‚” say FNB economist Mamello Matikinca and senior industry analyst at the bank Jason Muscat.
In their weekly economics review‚ they add that the 9.4% increase that the national energy regulator NERSA granted Eskom does not meaningfully change the inflation
outlook as it needs to be seen first what municipal distributors pass on to end users in the middle of the year.
