Popular  e.tv drama Ashes to Ashes returns for a second season from Monday.

The show, which made its debut last March, attracted more than two million viewers.

The previous season ran for five months while this one is expected to end in September. Ashes to Ashes replaces Gold Diggers, which ended yesterday.

Some of the leading actors on the show include former Generations stars Nambitha Mpumlwana, who played Mawande Memela; Patrick Shai who played Patrick; Menzi Ngubane who played Sibusiso Dhlomo, Zenande Mfenyana who played Noluntu Memela; and Maggie Benedict who played Akhona.

Other actors include Chumani Pan, Nyaniso Dzedze and Mandla Gaduka. Joining the cast are Tina Jaxa, Nandi Nyembe and Atandwa Kani.

The telenovela is set against the backdrop of a family-owned business in Tembisa, called Namane Funerals.

The funeral parlour is headed by the husband and wife duo, Mandlakazi and Selogile Namane, who inherited it from Mandlakazi’s parents.

The pair created an empire with the assistance of their children Tsietsi, Monwabisi and Reba Namane.

On the previous season, viewers saw Tsietsi shooting his mother and brother. E.tv’s channels division managing director Monde Twala said picking up from the previous season, viewers can look forward to finding out who survived the terrible shooting rampage.

Pan, who plays the role of Monwabisi on the show, said viewers should expect to be blown away by the new season.

“A lot is happening. I don’t want to give away anything but the show is growing,” he said.

The Mooiplaas-born actor said they started shooting for season two last year.

Series producer Genna Lewis said the first season allowed the Namane family to reinforce its presence in South African prime-time television.

“In the second season, the changing power dynamics in the Namane family will bring fierce action to the fore. Ashes to Ashes 2 promises to bring all the thrills, drama, love, hate and the complications that South Africans have come to expect from the series,” Lewis said.

Catch Ashes to Ashes on Monday at 8pm on e.tv.
