A forecast of no rain for a fortnight prompted the Department of Water and Sanitation to call for “the whole nation to pray for rain during Easter”.

Department Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau said an assessment on dam levels on Tuesday “indicates that the national average stood at 54.8%”.

Ratau said that while this was an “increase of 1.1% compared to last week‚ by the same time last year the levels were at 79.4%”.

“While there some storms expected over the central parts of the country in a few days‚ there will be no rainfall across the country in the next two weeks‚” Ratau added.

“It is for this reason that the department calls on everyone to continue to seek divine intervention for rains.”

Ratau said that “with the below normal rainfall over the next three months‚ the recovery rate from this climate change phenomenon in SA could stretch further than three years”.
