A  holiday  in Cape Town for an actress and her boyfriend has landed the BBC in hot water with a Conservative member of Parliament.

The British public broadcaster used licence fee-payers’ cash to pay for a business class flight for the boyfriend of Sophie Okonedo to join her in Cape Town after she finished shooting Undercover‚ a new TV drama that started on Sunday.

After whale-watching and wine-tasting‚ the couple were flown back to London‚ also business class‚ the Daily Star reported.

The newspaper said it was not known how much the holiday cost but two one-way business class flights from Cape Town to London cost about £5000 (R105 000) on British Airways.

Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen said it would “depress fair-minded licence fee-payers”.

The BBC said: “In line with industry practice‚ the BBC will on occasion agree to pay for a spouse or partner of a leading actor to travel in premium economy when they’re filming abroad owing to the unsociable and unpredictable hours actors work.” — Tiso Black Star Group Digital
