Celebs show support for Winnie Madikizela-Mandela after health scare

Local celebrities including Oskido‚ Nomzamo Mbatha and Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa have added their voice to the chorus of well wishes for political stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. This after the former wife of Nelson Mandela was recently hospitalised.

Madikizela-Mandela was rushed to hospital earlier this month after falling ill and requiring essential back surgery.

Although reports from the presidency claim Madikizela-Mandela is in a stable condition‚ the family of the former first lady issued a statement on Sunday pleading with the public to respect their privacy during her hospitalisation.

The statement drew waves of support from celebs‚ politicians and ordinary South Africans‚ who took to social media to again wish her a speedy recovery.

Posting a picture of Winnie in her younger years‚ musician and businessman Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa took to Instagram to offer his well-wishes and prayers to Winnie.

“Wishing the Mother of our Nation‚ Winnie Madikizela-Mandela‚ a speedy recovery. May you get well soon‚ our prayers are with you‚” he wrote.

His sentiments were shared by 7de Laan actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa‚ who wrote on Twitter: “Just heard the disturbing news that mama Winnie Mandela is in hospital. Hope she has a speedy recovery and my peace hover over your family.”

Actress Nomzamo Mbatha‚ who had only a few weeks previously spoken of her love and admiration for Winnie‚ and who has previously expressed her hope that she will one day play Winnie in a biopic‚ responded to the report by simply posting a set of broken hearts.

These messages come in the wake of well-wishes by President Jacob Zuma‚ who in a statement on Saturday‚ urged the entire nation to pray for the struggle icon.

“We wish Mama Winnie a speedy recovery. We also urge the nation to keep her and the Mandela family in their thoughts and prayers during this time‚” read the statement.
