Gunman shoots four during tavern robbery

Mdantsane police are investigating a shooting incident in a Newlands tavern that left four people wounded.

The shooting took place on Saturday at 10pm while scores of patrons were drinking.

The tavern owner reported to police that she was serving customers when shots rang outside the premises.

This was followed by a man armed with a firearm entering the tavern.

He demanded money which he then got.  He took the owner's laptop and bottles of alcohol before fleeing the scene.

After he had left the tavern owner realised that the gunman had shot and wounded four of her patrons.

They each sustained gunshot wounds to their legs.

A case of business robbery and attempted murder was later opened at the Vulindlela police station in NU12.

The perpetrator is still at large.
