Hawks seek help finding fugitive

The Hawks released a picture of their most wanted fugitive yesterday in the hope that someone might help trace him.

The release of the photo of murder and robbery suspect Ayanda Ngabase follows five months of trying to track him down.

Ngabase, 25 to 30 years old, escaped from the King William’s Town Magistrate’s Court in December where he was due to appear on a charge of house robbery.

He was also in custody for the murder of Dimbaza businessman Fikile Jilaji, 56, in July last year.

Jilaji was killed in front of his wife by armed robbers who demanded money from his cash loan business.

The robbery and murder incident saw two Dimbaza SAPS detectives arrested in February.

The detectives, Mputumi Matomele and Xolisa Madoli, are alleged to have conspired with the perpetrators of Jilaji’s murder. They are also suspected to be involved in the bombing of the Dimbaza Post Office where cash was stolen, as well as various other business robberies, fuel card fraud and gun smuggling.

They allegedly used their police uniforms to carry out some of the crimes.

Police are requesting any member of the community who is able to confirm Ngabase’s whereabouts to come forward.

Ngabase is originally from Port Elizabeth. He is considered to be dangerous.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact investigating officer Mcebisi Qakala on 079-508-9596 or disclose this information at their nearest police station.

All information will be treated as confidential, police added.
