A Truck driver delivering the Daily Dispatch newspaper from Port Elizabeth to the former Transkei died after his truck was involved in an accident early this morning.

The deceased, who cannot be named at this stage, was travelling alone at the time of the crash.

His 4-ton truck lost control and rolled between Port Alfred and Fish River. It is not clear at this stage if there was another vehicle involved in the accident.

Daily Dispatch's Assistant circulation manager Riaan Odendaal said they were sad about what had happened. “The accident happened early this morning and unfortunately our driver died in that accident.

The truck was delivering our first addition to the Transkei. We as the Daily Dispatch sending our condolences to the family,” he said.

The driver was based in Port Elizabeth.

At 8am this morning, the Dispatch trucks were still delivering the first edition to the greater Transkei. “We have started delivering the paper to the Transkei after 8am and some of the areas in the Transkei will get their paper at about lunch time,” said Odendaal.
