Slain businessman's relative arrested

A close woman relative of slain Dutywa businessman Mlamli Tetyana has been arrested, along with two young men.

The Saturday Dispatch reported that Tetyana was found lying in a pool of blood in his home on Thursday night.

He was stabbed nine times and his throat had been slashed.

Yesterday Butterworth police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said the 42-year-old woman was arrested on Friday.

The two men, aged 22 and 25, were arrested on Saturday.

They cannot be named until they have made a formal court appearance.

“Dutywa police detectives have made a breakthrough in making arrests in this case,” Manatha said.

The trio will appear in the Dutywa Magistrate Court today on charges of murder.

Tetyana, 57, is a former school teacher and the nephew of Mbhashe municipality UDM councillor Mzimkhulu Tetyana.

lA woman, 55, has been arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. She was arrested at Timane in Colosa village, Dutywa with a pistol and two rounds.

Butterworth police spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said they acted after a tip-off.

“The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to establish if it was used in the commission of crime around Dutywa,” Manatha said.

lPolice have arrested 55 people in Buffalo City Metro and surrounds for drunken driving, assault and shoplifting.

Roadblocks were held in Mdantsane, Cambridge, Vulindlela, Inyibiba, Berlin, Blue Water, Mooiplaas, Kei Mouth, Komga and Macleantown.

Mdantsane police spokesman Lieutenant Nkosikho Mzuku said: “This is to curb unnecessary fatalities on our public roads. The suspects are aged between 23 and 40 years.”

The suspects are due to appear in different magistrates’ courts, including Mdantsane, East London and Komga.

“We give special thanks to the members of the community who provided us with information.

This helps us a lot in fulfilling our mandate of fighting crime,” Mzuku added.
