Beacon Bay family's home damaged in blaze

A Beacon Bay family lost their belongings and their dog when their house caught fire this morning.

According to the owner of the house they woke up to the blaze at around 7am.

One of the occupants inside the house said the fire started in one of the bedrooms and believed it was caused by a Chinese paper lantern that her daughter kept lit through the night.

The dog died of smoke inhalation and the owner suffered some injuries on his right hand when he broke the window in an attempt to save the dog.
