Mother of slain siblings also dies

The mother of the brother and sister shot dead in Mthatha on Sunday has died from wounds sustained during the shooting.

Lindiwe Arosi is said to have died soon after she was admitted to the Nelson Mandela Central Hospital with gunshot wounds to her abdomen on Sunday night.

“We are now going to bury four people in one day,” said family spokesman Sithembiso Arosi.

“We just pray to God to give us strength and Good Samaritans come to our rescue. We are struggling to bury them.”

Arosi’s death comes after her son Buntu Arosi, 25, and daughter Ntandokazi Arosi, 20, died when four men armed with R5s opened fire on them on Sunday night.

Arosi was injured during the shooting and rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

Her husband Sazi Arosi, 49, died of natural causes almost three weeks ago.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said no arrests had been made.

Sithembiso said they hoped to bury the four family members on Saturday.

Sunday’s shooting comes a year after another of their family members was shot dead in similar style.

Recalling the incident, Buntu’s brother Mphumzi Arosi said: “The group of about four men came heavily armed, kicked open doors and shot dead my other brother Sinalo and seriously injured Buntu.

“We suspect that the gunmen who attacked this weekend are the same guys who attacked in June 2015. There have been no arrests or we were never informed of any arrests for that attack.”

Mphumzi and his sister Nomfuneko Arosi believe that Sunday’s attack was motivated by revenge after a Ngangelizwe man was stoned to death two weeks ago.

Friends of the deceased man had accused Buntu of being involved.

“And now on Sunday we were attacked and three of the people close to my heart were just killed within seconds,” said Mphumzi, crying.

The family requested the Dispatch not to take pictures.

The death of the four family members comes hardly four months after their grandmother and uncle died of natural causes in February.
