Oscar: Reeva would want me to seek redemption not 'waste my life' behind bars

The “charge of murder” is the millstone around Oscar Pistorius’ neck, the paralympian revealed between bouts of “prolonged sobbing and even howling” in an interview to be aired on Friday night.

According to a ‚ Pistorius admitted he deserves a long jail sentence for the killing of Reeva Steenkamp but did not want to "waste his life" behind bars.

He said: “At times I don’t feel like I should have the right to live for taking someone else’s life”‚ but insists her death was not murder.

Pistorius - who‚ in court last week‚ claimed to have an offer to work in an early childhood development programme - says in the interview that if “afforded the opportunity of redemption I would like to help the less fortunate like I had in my past”.

“I would like to believe that if Reeva could look down upon me that she would want me to live that life‚” he said.

“At times I don’t feel like I should have the right to live for taking someone else’s life. What’s difficult is dealing with the charge of murder‚” Pistorius said.

The Guardian reported that the Paralympian “stuck to the same account he has given of the shooting of Steenkamp on 14 February 2013‚ Valentine’s Day‚ inside his gated home in Pretoria”.
