East London-born businesswoman Tarryn Ogle has made it into the top 40 of the Mrs Africa 2016 title.

The participating countries are Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Kenya, Swaziland and Mauritius. South Africa will host the grand finale taking place in November this year.

Ogle said she had entered for Mrs Africa after a number of friends convinced her to.

“As an entrepreneur, beauty and fashion enthusiast, wife and mom, I felt the Mrs Africa brand was aligned with my goals and vision.

“It’s about the institution of marriage, family, business and making a tangible positive difference in the lives of others in SA and the rest of Africa.”

Ogle, who is now based in Johannesburg, said one of her goals was to inspire and motivate women from all walks of life.

Although the pageant is not like any other, Ogle’s love for modelling, fashion and business dates back to her days as the winner of Model Hunt Modelling competition.

She has also taken part in various modelling extravaganzas alongside international runway models.

All finalists are required to raise funds for Dignity Dream, a non-profit organisation that distributes washable feminine sanitary wear to underprivileged girls and women.

“For this amazing cause, I will be hosting a fundraising initiative aimed at high school girls getting involved in a social entrepreneurship programme,” said Ogle.

“The programme is aimed at crea-ting awareness and getting young ladies involved in their social responsibility as well as developing so-cial entrepreneurship skills.

“Secondly, it is aimed at closing the gap of inequality whereby underprivileged ladies will now have the basic necessities to continue their schooling career and make a positive difference in their lives and their communities.

“It is aligned with the Mrs Africa, Dignity Dreams and I am excited about this project as next year I will be bringing it to East London.”

As part of their community work for the pageant, Ogle said that she had partnered with Salem Baby Care Centre to help them host a charity ball later in the year. The ball will be hosted at The Venue@ Hemingways.

“We would appreciate and love sponsorships and donations from businesses and individuals in East London,” she said. —poliswap@dispatch.co.za
